I'm growing a black-eyed pea and I put it under 1/2 inches of dirt.I water it 2 tablespoons once a week. I had tried growing it twice. The first time it wasn't growing after 2 weeks. I looked inside and found that the seed was moldy. What am I doing wrong?
Is my plant dying because I put it under to much dirt?
If your using soil that has been bagged up and wet over some time then your starting out with soil that has mold spores.
Reply:if a seed has turned moldy it means it's been overwatered. Overwatering can come from either having too much water or too much moisture in the air. Some things are grown from germinated seeds and some are grown from cuttings or branches. I can't tell which one you used. Usually when you buy a pack of seeds the instructions are on the back of the envelope. 1/2 inch may have been too deep. For things like cuttings or branches you need to put that into a powder that makes it start roots. Some seeds like apple seeds you need to nip the point to make it grow. Some seeds you need to soak in water before you plant them. I don't know what exactly it was that you planted.
