Whats thining a plant mean?

i know this is a stupid question and i think i know the answer but to make sure , on my seed package it says "Thin seedlings when they are 4 inches in height, with the final spacing of the plants 2 feet apart"

tell me how to Thin seedlings.

thanks...

Whats thining a plant mean?
Remove some of the seedlings so that they can receive more nutrients and make better roots.
Reply:It means that if you have planted two or more seeds together, then remove one or more seedlings and transplant elsewhere. So if you have an area of 6 feet by 6 feet and and you have lets say 12 seedlings in bunches of 3, you would leave one in the ground and place the other two two feet apart from seedling that you did not remove.

My tomato plants have white marks on some of the leaves?

I am new to tomato gardening, so bear with me. On a couple of the plants, a few of the leaves have white marks that are squiggly and about 1/2 inch long. The plants seem healthy and are beginning to bear fruit. Is this normal? Does it indicate some deficiency in the soil, or indicate that I need to fertilize or something? They look really good otherwise.

Squiggly marks in the leaves can be leaf miners, you can kill them by simple smooshing the leaves with the squiggles or remove the effected leaves.
Reply:If they are just white spots, it may be a type of fungus. We used to keep all kinds of vegetables (I'm a country girl), and sometimes the tomatoes and pumpkins would get a similar growth...Here's what you do:

Get a pitcher and fill it with a bit of dish soap and water.

Go up to your plants and rub it on the parts where there are white spots. Just go ahead and use your hands, but be gentle, scrubbing the stuff off.

Then get out your hose and give it a good rinse. This should ward off the fungus, but we had to do this at least three times throughout the summer.

Oh, and make sure that you do this either in the morning or at night. Obey the gardening law: don't put water on anything between the hours of 11am and 4 pm.
Reply:its probably a fugal dieases called mildew

I have vegetable plants growing under CFL (compact flourescent Lights) and everything I read says 1-3 inches?

everything says to put them 1-2 inches away from the plants leaves but I appear to be burning them. Any suggestions from anyone who has grown edible fruits/veggies with flourescent?

You keep the about 3 inches from a normal florescent bulb. Compact bulbs make more heat so you have to move it away to maybe 5 inches. That should be close enough for maximum photosynthesis but far enough to not scorch the leaves. If, by chance, they do still scorch back it off a little more.

My bromeliad has turned from purple to green?

When I bought from store the flower was stunning purple. Now it is turning a pale green. How can I get it back to purple? It is a small indoor plant (2 inch pot), I have it in a bright room that is warm.

My bromeliad has turned from purple to green?
Bromies bloom, the mother produces pups, then dies. Good news is the pups will grow happily, bloom, produce pups, then die.

They like to be watered in the funnel the leaves create.

Congrats on your new bromie kids.
Reply:some of them loose color when too dry or too wet. so put it in a room where it will get some sun, but not too much. if that doesnt work then maybe you are watering too much.

if it doenst improve by the end of summer then maybe it is naturally changing color and maybe will stay green or go back to purple, or maybe go to a red or orange

What's wrong with my Bamboo plant?

I bought three lucky bamboo plants a year ago. One I keep on my desk at work and two I keep at home right next to each other. All 3 are in water with some marbles and the ones at home receive no natural light but have done fine. One of the ones at home has turned yellow and is kind of mushy. The other one is fine. It happened over night. Anyone know what might have happened? There is a few small leafy sprouts about two inches long. Can I cut them off and grow them on thier own?

What's wrong with my Bamboo plant?
Hi there. Sorry for your trouble. You can discard the mushy one or cut above the mushy part and have it re-root itself. Sometimes they will take. Sometimes not. I think it's worth a shot. They sometimes get too much sun.Other than that I'm not quite sure what could of happened. I have found that if it is happy in one spot moving it was my downfall. Hope things work out well.
Reply:bamboo goes yellow. especially if theyre in the sunlight and outside. cut it off anywhere it will grow.
Reply:change the water
Reply:well it could have died. i had one and it happened just like yours if i was u i'd get a new plant. another thing u can make your plants healthy by putting music by it for it to listen to
Reply:Freshen the water and keep in mind that they are a low light plant.

I would like info on how to plant lilies that have sprouted 6-7 inches on the bulb?

"How to Plant lily Bulbs

How deep? . . . You don't have to worry too much about this . . . except for Madonna Lilies (L. candidum). These must have no more than one inch (2.5 cm) of settled soil over the tops of the bulbs. Cover the others with about 3-4 inches (7-10 cm) of soil for small bulbs and 4-6 inches (10-15cm) for larger ones."

"The growth pattern of most lilies, in addition to the bulbs of fleshy scales, is a stem that roots on the portion that is beneath the soil. Therefore, relatively deep planting is important. If bulbs are small, they should be planted about 4 inches deep. Large bulbs should be planted about 6 to 8 inches deep. In any situation, there should be several inches of soil above the tip of the bulb that will allow space for rooting on the stem."

I would like info on how to plant lilies that have sprouted 6-7 inches on the bulb?
I like the answer above. Here's another one:

The soil should be dug down to 1 foot and fertilizer mixed and worked thoroughly into the soil. Sand, leaf mold, peat moss, or other material may be needed to adjust the soil, and should be mixed in at this time. In most, sections of the country the American-grown bulbs should go in the soil about mid-October. The size of bulb, type of soil, and manner of root growth are all factors in planting. A general rule is to set bulbs three times their own depth. Bulbs planted in sandy soils should be 2 inches deeper than in clay soils. Space small lilies 6 to 7 inches apart and larger ones 1 foot apart.

But CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION! Your lilies have sprouted a LOT already! They might now grow properly (or grow at all), especially the first year. I really suggest extra TLC and kindness to your lilies the first year!

I want to know what kind of plant this is.?

My son bought this plant at the store. It looks like short yard grass at the bottom with taller stalks(up to 6 inches) coming out the middle. On the top of each taller stalk is a little gold ball. Not yellow, GOLD.( like painted gold) Please help , thank you.

I want to know what kind of plant this is.?
If it doesn't have a plant stake it it I would go back to that store and see if they had more . If not maybe the local nursery could help you identify it .. Otherwise how do you know about sun, and watering guidelines. Good luck

Reply:A picture would be helpful. It's kind of hard to identify plants without a better description or a picture.
