I am from north eastern pa, and I have been growing them in my room for the past 2 weeks. They are about 1.2 inches high and they look very healthy and green so far, but my room is always very cold, so I am thinking they might not last much longer. Is there anything I can do for them? and also, do I HAVE to replant them? I don't have a garden or anything.
any other suggestions?
thanks.
Will a jalapeno plant plant survive in my dorm room?
Yes, you will have to replant them in larger containers. You will also want to get plant grow-lights which may offer some warmth and ideal light for healthy growth. Putting them by a window if you are living in a very cold climate could freeze your poor baby jalapeno plants!
Google: Indoor gardening: jalapeno peppers
I looked up a couple for you: http://www.geocities.com/homegardener/ja...

Good luck and have fun with your chili peppers!
Reply:keep them warm and big enough container and by a window for plenty of sun light and they will be ok just like my canibus plants
Reply:Any Plant be it jalapeno, or any other kind of Pepper, belong outside if it is going to prosper, and grow. The pepper plant will grow and give Fruit, when grown, but remember that this Plants are seasonal, and won't yield Peppers, after their first picks of the Season. If possible replant it in a bigger pot as the other writer suggested, and I am sure it will be able to grow, a lot bigger, since Plants need to expand their Roots to survive. If you are going to keep it inside, I hope it will be able to wis-tand the indoors, since I have not known that the pepper Plants can be maintain indoors for Long.
Reply:Best chance of survival...replant in a larger container.
This will give the roots somewhere to grow into otherwise your plant might become "root-bound".
I'd also suggest placing them in the areas with a good amount of sun exposure since these plants are native to warm temperatures.
I'd definitely lay some mulch around the base to combat the cold. Also if it is very, very cold, perhaps cover the plant with some see through polyeurathane...like a ziploc bag for several hours a day so that it will retain some moisture, be protected from the cold and still get sunlihgt.
Reply:It's probably a good idea to put them in a bigger container, but if you are worried about it wait until spring. You will probably have to get some gro lights(Wal Mart end of season $10.00 or so) as they will need lots of sun.As long as it doesn't freeze in your room they should be safe from the cold. It's the light that has me worried.. I live in Phoenix and have 6 foot plants in my garden. I get two crops a year, one in May-June and another one in Oct.-Nov. As a matter of fact I had salsa today while watching football.
