how deep and how many inches apart would be helpful as well
How do I plant ivy (english) against a wall without it spreading as groundcover?
Yes, it is invasive--but yes, you can also train it by keeping an eye on the runners that go along the ground.
Don't cut them off,(you'll simply begin two where one was!) let them get long enough til you can lift them up and wind them into the wall groouping-- pretty soon, doing this over and over. the plant will just regenerate from the on going vine and not from the base--just keep a tender eye on it!
Good Luck!
Reply:Fasten some trellis or wire mesh to your wall and fasten the ivy to it until it trains to grow the way you want it to
Reply:A very invasive plant. You will have to watch it. A few inches deep and few apart. It grows quickly.
Reply:I have chain link fence (ugly) I planted ivy on itabout 10 years ago. U have to watch it closely %26amp; cut it back . Pull all shoots out that r spreading by the roots as U see them. Hope this helps. It works for me. Good Luck with it.
Reply:good luck, training it on a treliss works to an extent, but you'll have to cut shoot as soon as they come up elsewhere
