Autumn Blaze Maple tree? It's a large tree, about 4-5 inches in diameter and we want it to shade our bedroom windows on the west. I don't want the roots to eventually push against our foundation.
How close to our house can I plant our new?
This might help

Reply:No kind of tree should be planted within ten feet of your house.
That other guy is right, Maples get huge. I'd plant it somewhere across the block myself... but I'm also allergic to maple leaves.
Stick it by the sidewalk, or in a corner of the yard. It'll get big enough if it lasts. That's a pretty big diameter to be transplanting, and if you have to dig it out you just might kill it.
Reply:No, you don't want the roots against your foundation or the body of the tree breaking into your bedroom window. Look up your tree (internet) or go back to the Nursery and ask them how big it will get. Then plant appropriately. You also don't want a tree close to your house that might attract termites. Then that would be a whole new can of beans to tend to.
Reply:I've had maples well over 30 feet away that went right through my foundation and under the house.
Reply:as far away as possible. Tree roots do a lot of damage to house foundations. i think maples are garden friendly but it's best to check with an arborist first before planting.
There's nothing worse that having to cut down a lovely tree because it was planted in the wrong place. I've had to remove a Chinese Tallow that unknowingly I had planted over pipes. and a Bottlebrush tree that was left in place when the previous owners built on an extension to the house. it was a metre from the brick garage. and it eventually cracked the huge concrete slab at the back door .
be safe and check first before planting
