extends up. The leaves grow up from the trunk and as they grow they curl downward to over 12 inches long. The leaves are light to medium green and about 1/2 in across. As they die they fall off the trunk, making the trunk longer. I would like to know what kind of plant this is so I can take care of it better. It seems to be dormant in the winter, and as soon as spring comes, new leaves start coming up.
What kind of plant do I have? It stands about 4 ft. tall. The base is round like a ball then the trunk ...?
From what you said it sounds like .... what we call a pony tail plant.
Look at this website and see if this is it.
Reply:Where do you live? You seem to be describing a palm tree of some sort. Is it indoors or outside in Florida? Can't answer unless you give more specifics.
Reply:I have no clue from your description. However most plants that form a ball at the base are palm related. The leaves you describe could be fronds, but who knows. Where do you live?
Anyways, it sounds like its doing well on its own? I would just water ever so often if you live in a hot climate and leave alone.
