How much carbon dioxide will a tomato plant consume?

from planting the seed until it is about 7 inches.

Or look at it this way.. Will 1.5 ft^3 of regular AIR have enough CO(2) in it to support the growth of 48 tomato plants from planting of the seed until about 7 inches of healthy growth?

How much carbon dioxide will a tomato plant consume?
Not even close. I estimate that 1.5 cubic feet of air contains about 12 milligrams of carbon as CO2. I would also guess that a 7-inch tomato plant would contain a few grams of carbon in its combined dry matter. So your 48 plants could comprise a few hundred grams of carbon. Your 1.5 cubic feet contains only about 1/10,000th of what you need. It is essential that you somehow replenish the air inside the closed system with outside air using a pump.
