This appears to be a wild vine of some type growing in my backyard in Texas. It is fast growing and has dark green "spade shaped" foliage and began to shoot out long green "sticks" from the vine, the end of the sticks began growing small pink and yellow bowl shaped flowers. After the flowers started blooming some pea pods started growing out from the flowers. Some of the pods are about 2 inches long and the others are still very young and small. Can someone help me to Identify this plant?
Need to idendify a vine plant with dark green foliage, small pink and yellow flowers that grows peas.?
It is called a sweet-pea (lathyrus)
A beautiful biannual in most parts of the USA.
You will find it quite common along country roads, planted years and years ago by pioneers and it has traveled over the years by irrigation. easily self sowing and the fragrant in spring is spectacular!
God Bless

Reply:I was ready to agree that what you describe is a sweet pea, but because you also mention "yellow bowl" I really believe it is a native plant known as goats rue (Tephrosia virginana) It has bi-colored flowers pink wings, yellow standards.
