We are in zone 4....there is a 3 foot space around half of the deck and then it is the fence line. The deck is only 10 inches off of the ground and will not have a railing, but I would like some height to whatever I plant. It faces east. Color would be great, but greenery is fine as well.

Japanese Boxwoods...they can be shaped.
Reply:Hay baby, plant some of that wacky weed so you can realy enjoy your evenings on the deck. Might just turn a profit as well.
